Monti Hill
Monti carries multiple hats in several spaces of her work. She is the Digital Coordinator of Grassroots Leadership. An abolitionist organization focused on uplifting communities nationwide to abolish for-profit private prisons, jails, and detention centers.
Her work is focused on community storytelling from most of the organization’s members. Taking back the narrative of how we view formerly incarcerated people and the crimmigration legal system.
As our digital community grows and expands, protecting and supporting intentional visual storytelling, branding, and marketing for community healing is crucial to begin led by Black and Brown narratives.
Monti is also the founder and creator of Black and Brown Leadership in Politics, a digital platform on Facebook.
Born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, Monti attended Prairie View A&M University, where she studied Sociology. After moving to St. Louis, Missouri, Monti acted on her passion for changing communities through art.
Her world changed during the Ferguson Uprising. She was a case manager at several high schools in St. Louis City but felt lost. The death of Mike Brown shifted her mentality and moved her to get involved in political organizing. She was inspired to change leadership from within.
As an organizer, Monti worked on State and Federal elections. She worked as a candidate recruiter for the Missouri Democratic Party and moved to the Democratic Congressional Campaign in Southern Illinois.
Monti is a skilled photographer, painter, and graphic designer weaving art into social justice and change.
